The name behind the soap.
Our 'Six One Seven' shave soap is named after the Royal Air Force 617 Squadron who are more famously known as 'The Dambusters'. The members of the Squadron included British, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian aircrew.
On the night of 16-17 May 1943, 617 Squadron embarked on an audacious bombing raid to destroy three dams in the Ruhr valley, the industrial heartland of Germany. The mission was codenamed Operation 'Chastise'.
The label depicts a single Lancaster bomber on its bombing run on one of the Ruhr Valley Dams. Visible underneath the aircraft is the famous 'bouncing bomb' designed especially for the raid by Barnes Wallis.
